  • This Means War! Domestic Politics and Life During World War II

    World War II changed the United States in fundamental ways politically, economically, and socially. However, from the first German tanks rolling across Europe to the last U.S. bombings over Japan, Americans debated the nature and extent of US involvement as well as its consequences for the home front. Exploring major issues from the Lend-Lease Act and Japanese internment to price controls and the G.I. Bill, this lecture will highlight some of the ways those debates shaped the world we continue to live in today. Presented by Matthew June, Phd.

    Join Jay Futterman and Bob Walker, solar ambassadors from ISEA (Illinois Solar Energy Assn.) and learn the basics of home solar: how it works, how it benefits the environment, and how to save money. Jay will walk you through his process of converting to home solar energy--the steps involved and the money he has saved. Both Jay and Bob will answer your questions such as installation issues, alternatives to home rooftop locations of panels, and rebates that may be available.

    It’s worth looking for a probate case even if you think your ancestor didn’t have money. You can find relatives you didn’t know existed, a listing of property and furnishings, and bills from service providers. When you see a coroner’s signature on a death certificate, or have a newspaper account of an accident, obtain the inquest to open a fascinating window on the circumstances of the death.     Come meet Scott Simon, award-winning host of NPR’s Weekend Edition Saturday and lifelong Cubs fan, who will talk about his new book, My Cubs: A Love Story.

    Presenter Amy Hanna Downey, a Wilmette native with a rich background in environment, has worked as a zookeeper at Lincoln Park Zoo, and a wildlife conservationist and educator in Uganda.

  • The Shakespeare Project - As You Like It

    Follow it heroine Rosalind and her cousin Celia as they escape persecution at the hands of her uncle, Duke Frederick. Together, the cousins find safety and, eventually, love, in the Forest of Arden. Well known for its many famous speeches, including "All the World's a Stage", this play is a favorite among actors and audiences alike.

    Nostalgia Entertainment reenacts a 1940’s radio hour that is perfect for all ages! While answering musical requests from soldiers and loved ones during wartime, Patti, Maxine and Andrew entertain the “studio audience” with Andrews Sisters-style tunes and choreography, Abbott and Costello comedy sketches, and a touching tribute to Veterans of the United States Armed Forces.
