STEMScience, Technology, Engineering & Math

While the Wilmette Public Library loves literature and language, we also recognize the importance of technological literacy. We offer many programs for children that build scientific knowledge and problem-solving skills, from simple chemistry experiments and animal visits to computer programming and Lego robotics.

  • Drop-In Chess

    Where: Youth Program Room

    Drop by for informal, fun competition with other kids who love the game. Bring chess sets and pieces, if possible. All levels of players are welcome. Space is limited to the first 24 players to arrive. All ages.
  • Lego WeDo
    When: Thursday, June 23, 2016 - 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Experiment with Lego robotics! Program and build your own cool contraptions. Grades 3-5. Registration starts June 9 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents, June 16 for nonresidents.
  • Scratch Multimedia Design
    When: Thursday, June 30, 2016 - 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Learn coding basics as you create a game in Scratch. Please bring a flash drive. Grades 5–9. Registration starts June 16 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents, June 23 for nonresidents.
  • Scratch Jr.
    When: Thursday, July 07, 2016 - 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Take the very first steps towards learning computer programming with this iPad app. We'll make games and animations. Grades 1-4. Participants must be able to read. Registration starts June 23 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents, June 30 for nonresidents.

    Design your own simple creation to be 3D printed. Participants will pick up their projects at a later date. Grades 5-9. Registration starts July 7 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents, July 14 for noresidents.
  • Water Bottle Design
    When: Thursday, July 28, 2016 - 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Make a water bottle awesome! Use design software and our vinyl cutter to create decorations for a water bottle. We'll supply the water bottles, you supply the good ideas! Grades 5–9. Registration starts July 14 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents, July 28 for nonresidents.
