While the Wilmette Public Library loves literature and language, we also recognize the importance of technological literacy. We offer many programs for children that build scientific knowledge and problem-solving skills, from simple chemistry experiments and animal visits to computer programming and Lego robotics.

  • Preschool Science Explorers: Sound

    When: Monday, December 29, 2014 - 10:30 AM - 11:15 AM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Investigate the science of sound through stories, songs, and hands-on exploration. Ages 3-5 with an adult. Registration starts December 15 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents; December 22 for nonresidents.

  • The Frog Lady Presents Reptiles and Amphibians

    When: Saturday, January 03, 2015 - 11:00 AM - 11:45 AM
    Where: Auditorium

    Learn the differences and similarities between reptiles and amphibians, and meet over 20 live animals. You can stay after to get your picture taken with them, so be sure to bring your camera. For all ages. Free ticket required. Tickets available at the Youth Desk the day of the performance.

  • The Frog Lady Presents Reptiles and Amphibians: Sensory-Friendly Performance

    When: Saturday, January 03, 2015 - 12:30 PM - 1:00 PM
    Where: Auditorium

    Learn the differences and similarities between reptiles and amphibians, and meet over 20 live animals. You can stay after to get your picture taken with them, so be sure to bring your camera. This sensory-friendly performance is intended for children with special needs, ages 3-18, and their families. Registration starts December 20 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents, December 27 for nonresidents.

    Hone your detective skills through fun, hands-on activities. Grades 3-5. Funded by the Friends of the Wilmette Library. Sign-up starts 12/26 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents, and 1/2 for nonresidents.

  • Youth Chess Drop-In

    When: Sunday, January 11, 2015 - 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Want to play chess with other kids who love the game? Drop by for informal, fun competition supervised by parent volunteers. Bring chess sets and pieces, if possible. All levels of players are welcome, but prior knowledge of the pieces and how they move is helpful. Space is limited to the first 24 players to arrive.

  • Lego Club

    When: Wednesday, January 21, 2015 - 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Your imagination is the limit as you build alone or with a friend at this fun monthly club. For grades K-4. Sign-up starts 1/7 for Wilmette and Kenilworth residents, and 1/14 for nonresidents. Sponsored by the Friends of the Wilmette Library.

  • Light Painting

    When: Saturday, January 31, 2015 - 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM
    Where: Auditorium

    Brighten up the dark winter season! Use iPads to capture amazing designs made with lights in the dark. Grades 5-8. Sign-up starts 1/17 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents, and 1/24 for nonresidents.
