tweensThe Wilmette Public Library offers programs for kids in grades 5–8. The Kids’ Library Council meets regularly to do art, technology, and book-related activities and also to plan events and spaces for the Library. We also offer technology programs and occasional special interest activities.

  • Take-Apart Night

    When: Monday, September 22, 2014 - 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Have you always wanted to take apart your computer, but your parents won't let you? This is your lucky night! Take apart computer parts, printers, and other library machinery to see what's inside. No re-assembly required! For grades 5-8. It may be helpful for children with special needs to attend with an adult. Registration starts September 8 for Wilmette and Kenilworth residents; September 15 for nonresidents.

  • Kids' Library Council

    When: Monday, October 06, 2014 - 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Do you love the Library? Do you have lots of ideas to make it even better? Join us for a meeting of our Kids’ Library Council to do fun activities and plan library spaces and programs for kids in 5th to 8th grades. Plus, get ready for winter by turning ordinary gloves into gloves that work with smart phones and iPods. For grades 5-8. Registration starts September 22 for Wilmette and Kenilworth residents; September 29 for nonresidents.

  • Heroes of Olympus Release Party

    When: Thursday, October 09, 2014 - 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM
    Where: Auditorium

    Celebrate the release of The Blood of Olympus, by Rick Riordan, with games and activities inspired by Greek and Roman mythology. For grades 4-8. Registration starts September 25 for Wilmette and Kenilworth residents; October 2 for nonresidents.

  • Halloween Makeup

    When: Sunday, October 19, 2014 - 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Learn to apply Halloween makeup -- both gory and gorgeous -- with professional makeup artist Allison Halver. She'll demonstrate how to make wounds and prosthetic applications and offer tips on how to apply Halloween makeup on your own. Participants will be able to try on some of the makeup. Snacks will be provided. For grades 5 to 8. Registration starts 10/5 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents, 10/12 for nonresidents.

  • Babysitting Basics

    When: Sunday, October 26, 2014 - 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Do you want to get started as a babysitter? Come learn the ABC's of caring for and entertaining young children, as well as some tips on marketing yourself and ensuring your own safety. For grade 5-8. Registration starts October 12 for Wilmette and Kenilworth residents; October 19 for nonresidents.

  • Scratch Multimedia Design

    When: Monday, November 24, 2014 - 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
    Where: Small Meeting Room

    Learn coding basics as you create a game. Please bring a flash drive. Grades 5-8. Registration starts November 10 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents; November 17 for nonresidents.
