tweensThe Wilmette Public Library offers programs for kids in grades 5–8. The Kids’ Library Council meets regularly to do art, technology, and book-related activities and also to plan events and spaces for the Library. We also offer technology programs and occasional special interest activities.

  • Babysitting Basics

    When: Sunday, October 26, 2014 - 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Do you want to get started as a babysitter? Come learn the ABC's of caring for and entertaining young children, as well as some tips on marketing yourself and ensuring your own safety. For grades 5-8. Registration starts October 12 for Wilmette and Kenilworth residents; October 19 for nonresidents.

  • Halloween Makeup

    When: Monday, October 27, 2014 - 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Learn to apply Halloween makeup -- both gory and gorgeous -- with professional makeup artist Allison Halver. She'll demonstrate how to make wounds and prosthetic applications and offer tips on how to apply Halloween makeup on your own. Participants will be able to try on some of the makeup. Snacks will be provided. For grades 5 to 8. Registration starts 10/5 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents, 10/12 for nonresidents. This additional date is sponsored by the Friends of the Wilmette Library.

    When: Monday, November 10, 2014 - 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Do you love the Library? Do you have lots of ideas to make it even better? Join us for a meeting of our Kids' Library Council to do fun activities and plan library spaces and programs for kids in 5th to 8th grades. Plus, make e-books that will be posted on the library's website. For grades 5-8. Registration starts October 27 for Wilmette and Kenilworth residents; November 3 for nonresidents.

Registration starts November 24 for Wilmette and Kenilworth residents; December 1 for nonresidents.

  • Tangled Snowflakes

    When: Tuesday, December 23, 2014 - 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM
    Where: Auditorium

    Learn the basics of tangling, a popular form of doodling that's fun and relaxing, then design your own unique tangled snowflakes. Led by artist Christine Thornton. Grades 5-8. Registration starts December 9 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents, December 16 for nonresidents.
