As part of its 2012 One Book, Everybody Reads program, the Wilmette Public Library presents a series of events related to "State of Wonder." Unless otherwise noted, all programs are free and open to the public and will be held in the Wilmette Public Library Auditorium, 1242 Wilmette Avenue.

April 17 at 7:00 p.m: Alaka Wali, Curator at the Field Museum of Natural History, will discuss “Seekers of Refuge: The Amazon’s Hidden Peoples.”

April 23 at 7:00 p.m: Well-known local book discussion facilitator and reviewer Judy Levin will lead a discussion of "State of Wonder" as part of the Wilmette Public Library’s monthly “Fourth Monday Book Club” series.

April 30 at 7:00 p.m: A program on “New Drug Discovery: How and Why” will be presented by Brian Spear, retired Director of Scientific Affairs, Abbott Laboratories.

May 8 at 10:30 a.m: Adult Services Librarian Leslie Litoff will lead a discussion of "State of Wonder" as part of the library’s monthly “Classics and Contemporary” book discussion series.

May 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m:  “Explore the Amazon” during a field trip to The Field Museum.  Participants will explore the Museum’s new exhibition that immerses visitors in adventures with scientists who promote conservation from South America to Chicago. The $25 fee includes bus transportation to and from the library, admission, and lunch. Registration begins April 7 at the Recent Arrivals Desk; payment is due upon registration.

May 16 at 7:00 p.m: Judy Stigger, Post-Adoption Therapist at The Cradle, presents a program, “Cross-Cultural Adoption: Exploring the Issues, Personal and Global.”

May 20 at 2:00 p.m: Author Ann Patchett discusses her book, "State of Wonder." A book signing will be held, and the Book Stall at Chestnut Court will have books available for purchase. Please note that this event will take place at the Wilmette Jr. High School Auditorium, 620 Locust Road, Wilmette.  Ticketed seats will be held until 10 minutes before the event, and, at that time, all unfilled seats will be open to the public.
